How do I get my electric and/or gas turned on ?

To sign up for service, you must come in to the office located at 1100 Commercial Ave in Cairo Illinois.  You will need to fill out a Service Application and make a deposit, if necessary.  Click on link below for map to CPU.

When will my meter be read?

Our meter reading schedule is on a cycle basis.  Your meter is scheduled to be read as nearly as possible on the same day each month, thus establishing billing periods of approximately 30 days.

Is there anywhere I can pay my electric and/or gas bill besides Cairo?

Yes, we have a collector in Dongola, IL.  Stop by General Hardware and Supply at 200 NE Front and make your payment.

I am having trouble paying my bill and need some assistance.  Who do I contact?

If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact CPUC.  We are pleased to offer assistance in making payment arrangements and/or referring you to agencies who may be able to assist you in making payment.  However, if you contact CPUC after the payment due date noted on your statement, your assistance options may be limited.

Can I pay my bill online?

Not at this time.  You can sign up to have your CPUC bill taken directly from your checking or savings account each month.  See Payment Options for a form and for more ways to pay your bill.

What do I do in the case of a power outage or gas leak?

In the event of an emergency, you may contact CPUC by dialing 734-3200 or after hours, weekends, and holidays 734-1803, 734-4128, or 734-2131.  Emergency service personnel are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Customer Service is on duty from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday.  After hours an answering service relays messages to Utility personnel on call.
